Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

This food program provides a specialized package of USDA commodities to people in need. It generally provides for low income, the elderly, nutritionally at risk pregnant women up to one year post partum, mothers who are breastfeeding and children up to age six. This is a lot like the WIC program but differs due to the fact that they also serve the elderly, which makes up at least 90% of their participants. The women and children who apply for these services are not eligible for the WIC program. The products contained in the packages are purchased in USDA bulk or are donated foods. These packages are not dietary complete, they only provide supplements. Currently there are thousands of American's who use this program.
